Bookplate Preview!

Hey Backers!

Things are extraordinarily busy at Dreamprism Press while I work every available hour during the week to wrap up the book and get your rewards to you. Trust me, I'm putting every possible resource into getting this thing finished... but it needs to be done properly. It would be a shame to ship a book littered with problems, especially considering the massive effort I've put in so far. I'll have more news soon on printing status. Today, I'm psyched to reveal some photos and a video of the gorgeous bookplate!

Because I love my backers, I'm putting extra polish into these rewards. I'm aiming to make each item feel like it's worth more than it cost.

That's a lotta' plates!

In the case of the bookplate, these are a bit thick (but not enough to warp the book binding), and each one features a soft warm tone paper with a very strong sticker backing AND......... GOLD FOIL STAMPING! You really have to hold this beauty to believe it. Can you tell I'm excited?

Delicate eggshell with tasteful gold foil. Eat your heart out, Patrick Bateman!

Orders have been locked so, if you didn't grab one of these and would like to add one to your order, send me a private message and I can manage your order directly.

That's it for today! See you soon!

Important: orders locked and cards charged this week! Also, Kracklecoin and Art Prints Sneak Peek!

Hey Backers:

This means the following:

  • Your shipping address will be LOCKED and cannot be changed without contacting me directly!
  • You will NO LONGER BE ABLE TO EDIT YOUR ADD-ONS without contacting me directly!
  • If you wish to make ANY changes (shipping address, add-ons), YOU MUST DO SO BEFORE FRIDAY at 8:00 pm ET.
  •  If you don't provide a shipping address before Friday, I cannot guarantee you will receive your physical reward(s)!
  • Backers who had declined charges or have outstanding payments: this will be your final opportunity to remedy the payment issue if you wish to receive rewards!

Some important notes:

  • I'm planning to ship out rewards before the end of the summer. The exact dates are still unknown. If you're concerned your shipping address may change between now and September (to be safe), I would suggest changing the address (before Friday) to one that's more stable, such as a friend or relative's house. If you aren't sure about the stability of your shipping address during this time, contact me directly and I'll work with you to ensure you receive your reward(s). Please note that changing your shipping country or region could result in additional shipping costs.
  • Once again, you CANNOT MANUALLY CHANGE YOUR ORDERS past this week. If you want more copies of the book or additional rewards, please place your order this week. If you miss out and want to order additional items at a later date, I may be able to manually edit your order on my end up until your package ships.
  • For ancillary rewards besides the book, I'm not planning to produce many beyond what's ordered for the campaign. This could be your last chance to get these collectables, including the spiffy Kracklecoin and Art Print Pack shown below. Some may be available later, but I make no guarantees!!
  • This week is your ABSOLUTE LAST CHANCE to get a BACKER EDITION book. This WILL NEVER BE PRINTED AGAIN and no extras will ever be sold, guaranteed! (Except for scalpers on Ebay, haha)

Krushing the Kracklecoin

Okay, with that business out of the way, let's take a look at some updated Kracklecoin concept images! These aren't actual photos of the coins, but they're designed to look as close to the real thing as possible prior to production.

If you backed the campaign at the $75 tier and up or selected this as an add-on, you'll be receiving one of these babies!

I've produced these new, more precise concepts for my vendor to use as a reference. Thanks to your support, I am able to really boost the quality of the coins! I'm happy to announce the coin is going to be larger than planned at 50mm (roughly 2 inches) in diameter. That's about the size of a soda can top!

Trust me... you're gonna be thrilled with these!

Artsy Prints

And here's a look at the first completed reward item, the Art Print Pack! (Also included with each $75 and up tier) Initially, I was dissatisfied with two of the prints (Yooka-Laylee and Dr. Puzz). One had an error in the original drawing that had to be resolved. The other came out a bit too dark. Because my backers are the best and deserve the best, I reordered sets of these two.

Unfortunately, the second set came out even worse than the first! I'm receiving the third set this week so hopefully the issue will be totally sorted! I'm demanding the highest quality from vendors!!

If you missed your chance to get these, you still have one week remaining to add them to your order!

As always, let me know if you have any questions--either below or in a direct message. With that, I'm back to finishing up the last of the comic pages!

Retail Confusion!
12 months ago – Mon, Apr 15, 2019 at 10:12:20 PM

Hi Backers:

Retail Listing... news to me!

Yesterday, I discovered a troublesome issue! I googled "Yooka Laylee Kracklestone," and was surprised to see a couple comic book retailers offering our book for pre-order! Wait, huh?!

You're hearing it directly from me: the ONLY way to get a copy of Kracklestone (at least for the foreseeable future) is directly through this campaign, via the pre-order store, and, eventually, the Dreamprism Press Shop at www.dreamprismpress.com. I will not be providing stock to any other store.

So what's going on with these retailers?

Mostly, it has to do with my misunderstanding of how comic shops operate in acquiring books. I was fortunate to have Kracklestone accepted into the Diamond Previews Catalogue, through which just about every comic shop in the country orders its stock of books. I didn't realize this catalogue placement meant some retailers would immediately list the book for pre-order!

They even gave it a "Spotlight" which I assume wouldn't happen if they knew how many fart jokes are in it.
They even gave it a "Spotlight" which I assume wouldn't happen if they knew how many fart jokes are in it.

So, why is this a problem? Four reasons:

  • Retailers undercut my own campaign by selling the book for less than I can afford to offer it. Even if they sell it at cover price, there is a great deal of added expense to get books to them. Creators make very little money on books sold through traditional retail. Direct sales allow creators to retain a better percentage of the sale price, allowing us to stay independent and make ambitious, premium-quality books.
  • I worry about offending backers who may feel cheated if retailers get books at the same time. Backers come first. You believed in me and I plan to reward you properly for that.
  • Sales through retail do not allow me to communicate with customers. I can't build a mailing list like this and that makes it hard to showcase future projects to fans.
  • Quality control and fan satisfaction is extremely important to me. I can't control how individual stores operate and I can't guarantee store customers will receive their books in great condition if I don't fulfill orders directly.

Given these issues, I made the difficult choice to pull the book from the Diamond catalogue entirely. So, it will not be available to stores to resell.

However, I can't force retailers to take down their own listings! So, despite the listings being out there, they will not be able to fulfill orders. LIVE AND LEARN, I say!

Surveys Surveys Surveys!

Just a quick note about surveys. Looks like we're 86% through the Backer Surveys! Only a small number left to go. If you haven't filled your survey out, please do so as soon as you can. Remember, if you don't fill out your survey, I can't send your rewards as I need your shipping info!

That's it for today. Thanks for reading!
