Add-on/Preorder Store Launching This Week!
about 5 years ago – Mon, Mar 18, 2019 at 05:11:05 PM

Hey Backers:

That's right! The BackerKit store launches this week! Just crossing a few "I's" and dotting a few "T's" and we'll have things up and running! Here are a few preview pics:

The first thing you'll see in the survey !(if you backed the $30 tier and live in the US)

The Add-On Store! Buy any individual item from the campaign (except the original character drawing... sorry about that!)

And here's the top section of the Preorder Store! (for new preorder customers)

With the launch of our BackerKit store, backer surveys will be sent out. BackerKit requires creators to send out a "smoke test" to catch problems with the system early. Basically, this sends surveys to about 5% of backers (including some from each reward tier). If there's some sort of unforeseen bug in the system, I can catch it before the full set of surveys go out. I don't expect to see anything of the sort, but it's a nice safety feature!

I'll send out another update once the surveys have gone out. The survey/Add-On process is simple and straightforward, but I'll include more instructions in the next update.

Thanks again for your patience!

FEEDBACK NEEDED! Enamel Pin Set?!
about 5 years ago – Sat, Mar 09, 2019 at 10:55:32 PM

Hello there, Backers!

We're in the final stretch before the BackerKit Surveys and Add-On Store are released to your likely already-jammed email inboxes. BUT, I've had a last-minute idea based on some requests I've been getting. I'm considering adding a brand new item to the store: an enamel pin character set featuring five Yooka-Laylee characters! (SEE POLL LINK BELOW)

I'm told enamel pins are the bees knees these days (not THAT bee--nobody wants his knees or any other part of him). Yup, we already have the Yooka and Laylee combo pin ready for you. But, Yooka-Laylee has so many awesome characters! Just think how amazing you'll look covered in pins! You'll simultaneously represent your fandom as well as ward off bullies who will be intimidated by your excellent fashion skills.

Here's the issue... if we can't interest enough buyers, the process will end up costing more than it makes. So, I'm reaching out to the backer community to ask if this would be something you would consider adding to your growing chameleon and bat collection.

Here's a look at the proposed set (I haven't yet decided how they'll be packaged, but they'll likely be posted to their own backing cards):

Disappointed in your wardrobe options lately? It's because your clothes are lacking these pins.

After talking to vendors, I believe I can price the collector's set around $40 but that amount may need to move up or down. Yes, Target sells pin sets like this for 15-20 bucks but those sell in the tens or even hundreds of thousands. Trowzer's popular, but not quite THAT popular. Also, these are TWO-INCH PINS! Assuming that price point, I would need to sell 85 sets to break even. I believe we can surpass that number since the item will be available to backers as well as new preorder customers.

Through the store, you'd have the option to order just the Yooka-Laylee hero pin or you could spring for the full set. I considered offering the pins individually, but this will inevitably result in some pins selling more units than others. That imbalance causes production and cost issues. To keep things manageable, I'd like to limit the options to those two.

Okay, so when you're done salivating over the concept render above, click here to head on over to a poll question that will help me make a decision!

Thanks for taking the time to offer your feedback! If you have other specific thoughts, add them below or send me a direct message.
