Hello Backers!

I've been busily focusing on developing the book as well as getting the BackerKit Add-on store/Backer Surveys up and running. We're not quite there yet but I'll have a very detailed update coming your way soon to explain what you can expect.

New Art Time!

This new work-in-progress page (text left off to avoid spoilers) is very special as it represents a critical milestone for the project.

When I started this book, I tried to figure out how to convey in comic form the very heart of my own love for games like Yooka-Laylee, Banjo-Kazooie, and Donkey Kong Country. Often projects start with a spark of inspiration and a visual image of the end product. But, inevitably, things evolve and change. It's extremely rare to have the end product exactly match that initial spark's intangible vibe. Hopefully it becomes better in the process of evolving.

A playful and mysterious adventure in a beautiful toy-like playground.

We play the same game, but add our own personal experiences to the mix. For me, the description above succinctly describes what I love most about these games. I remember hunting around Grunty's lair looking for secrets... and the joy of discovery when I found them! The worlds and characters always seem to have a not-so-subtle toy-like feel, as though the whole thing is a fantastical play-set come to life.

It's hard to turn these intangible feelings into tangible results. Finally, after many months of hard work, I feel this page accomplishes this to my satisfaction. It feels like it "fits" with my own impressions of what I love most about the game(s). I'm confident going forward the project will not only be a great book, but it will also capture that elusive initial spark of inspiration in its pages.. excuse me, pagies.

I truly hope it resonates with those of you who had similar experiences. I don't think it's a coincidence that I produced this page post campaign--your faith in this project has helped me create it! I promise to ensure that every single page has the this same level of polish. I want to make sure the book captures the same spirit as the games... a playful and mysterious adventure in a beautiful toy-like playground.

BackerKit Store Launching Soon and Errored Pledges

Hi Backers:

Two quick updates...

BackerKit Coming Soon!

As promised on Friday, I'm diligently working toward getting the BackerKit system up and running. I'm being held up a bit because it's not clear yet how to add location-based custom shipping expenses for add-ons that will increase postage cost. I hope/expect to have it sorted soon.

Via BackerKit, you'll be able to add items to your pledges as well as clarify shipping details and other necessary info (such as Completionist Tier original art character choice, etc.). We'll also be opening the pre-order store. By bringing new backers into the project, we can continue working toward our stretch goals! Please note, new pre-orders at this point no longer have access to the Backer Edition book.

Since several people have asked, you can always upgrade to the Backer Edition book as long as you are a Kickstarter backer but no non-backers will be able to get that book. It's now locked in as a one-time-only variant edition so congrats to backers for having sole access to the first exclusive product made by Dreamprism Press!

Credit Card Woes

As it turns out, we unfortunately had quite a fair number of declined card charges. This is common to Kickstarter campaigns but our percentage is a bit higher than the average. As of now, the total amount we actually drew in is less than 60k... but don't worry! I'm still moving forward with the stretch goal regardless. A promise is a promise!

I've sent messages to "errored" backers (Kickstarter's term, not mine) and several have already fixed the issue--thank you! It's possible that some of the remaining declined charges may still come through. Hopefully, more of these declined charges will resolve by Friday--otherwise Kickstarter (without any control on my part) will drop the backers completely from the project :(

STRETCH GOAL UNLOCKED!

WOOOO! Grab some rainbow-colored champagne and celebrate with me! We hit the first stretch goal and unlocked holographic foil and sculptural-embossing on EVERY copy of the book!
